The federal government shut down last week after Democrats and Republicans reached a stalemate over efforts to protect health care for millions of Americans enrolled in the Affordable Care Act.
Vice President JD Vance warned the public to prepare for “pain” as the shutdown took effect. The closure is expected to furlough approximately 750,000 federal employees, while others, including active-duty military personnel, will continue working without pay.
The Trump administration also indicated that mass firings could occur during the shutdown, heightening concerns about the impact on federal operations and employees.
