Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) expressed support for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s recent arrests of illegal immigrants charged with child sex offenses, while Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) suggested harsher penalties, including the death penalty.
In a Monday statement, ICE reported that “214 illegal aliens in the Houston area have been arrested over the past six months for immigration violations and charged or convicted of sex crimes involving minors.”
Fetterman posted on X: “I don’t support all of ICE’s tactics, but I fully back operations like these. They make our nation more secure and our children safer.”
Luna’s response was stark, writing, “Skip deportation. Go directly to the death penalty. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.”
One individual arrested, Jose Guadalupe Meza, a 40-year-old four-time deported criminal from Mexico, was convicted of theft and child sexual assault. Meza was apprehended on June 24 and removed to Mexico the following day.
