Trump’s unexpected message to Renee Good’s father after fatal ICE shooting

National Debate Intensifies After Renee Nicole Good’s Death

Grief and anger continue to reverberate following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three in Minneapolis. Her death has sparked national attention, political commentary, and divided public opinion.

Family Remembers Renee

Good was killed on January 7 during a confrontation with ICE officer Jonathan Ross. Video footage suggests she attempted to drive away when Ross fired, fatally wounding her. Loved ones describe her very differently from some official statements, remembering her as outgoing, caring, and devoted to her children.

Her former father-in-law, Tim Macklin Sr., spoke with NBC about their longstanding connection. He recalled Renee as “a great person” who stayed in touch after separating from his son, Tim Macklin Jr., who passed away in 2023 at age 36. Renee often brought their shared 6-year-old son to visit, he said, and her death has been “really hard” on the family.

Political Responses and Controversy

In the days following the incident, political figures offered conflicting perspectives. Former President Donald Trump referred to Good as “pretty tough” while also acknowledging her qualities under normal circumstances. Vice President JD Vance suggested she was “brainwashed” and implied connections to a broader political network, a claim without supporting evidence.

Trump spoke directly about Renee’s father during a CBS interview, saying:

“I want to say to the father that I love all of our people. They can be on the other side, as you say, he might be on my side. And I think that’s great.”

He also commented on the actions of Renee and her wife, Becca Good, stating that law enforcement should not be subjected to “disrespectful” behavior and describing their actions as “outrageous.”

Father’s Perspective

Despite political tensions, Macklin Sr., a Republican and Trump supporter, emphasized the complexity of the situation. Speaking to CNN, he said:

“I’m not blaming anybody. I mean, the ICE agent, you know, at first I didn’t see the footage where… he was actually being rammed. I mean, I’ve seen the bumper of the car hitting his legs. And so in a flash like that, it’s hard to say how you would react.”

He noted that the situation has been emotionally challenging for everyone involved, highlighting the personal toll beyond the political debate.
