Trump Deploys National Guard Amid Anti-ICE Protests in Los Angeles

The warnings come as President Trump promised repercussions for protesters involved in anti-ICE demonstrations in Los Angeles, California. In response to reports of demonstrators spitting on police officers and harassing ICE agents, Trump authorized the deployment of at least 2,000 National Guard troops to restore order.

Speaking to reporters in New Jersey alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump criticized the protesters’ actions and indicated he is considering invoking the Insurrection Act if necessary to quell unrest. The demonstrations follow ICE raids on local employers, which have sparked significant public backlash and protests.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has voiced support for California’s efforts to block federal immigration enforcement in Los Angeles. She condemned Trump’s use of the National Guard, pointing to Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass’s refusal to intervene while federal agents were facing assaults on the streets.

The situation in Los Angeles underscores the growing tensions surrounding immigration enforcement, federal authority, and political polarization, highlighting the potential for further escalation as protests continue.
