Before turning his son in, Robinson’s father reportedly contacted federal authorities after recognizing him in surveillance images distributed during the search. He told investigators that his son had mentioned plans to harm himself before surrendering. Family members consulted a local pastor before Robinson was handed over to law enforcement.
Utah Governor Brian Cox stated that Robinson has not been cooperating with investigators since his arrest but noted that his family and close associates are assisting authorities. The governor mentioned that those familiar with Robinson described him as being strongly influenced by ideological beliefs.
FBI Director Kash Patel later disclosed details from text messages exchanged between Robinson and a close friend. In the messages, Robinson allegedly expressed intent to “take out Charlie Kirk,” citing personal animosity toward Kirk’s political stance.
Investigators said DNA evidence recovered from a towel used to wrap the weapon and a screwdriver found on the roof of Utah Valley University matched Robinson’s genetic profile. These findings have been turned over to both federal and local prosecutors for review.
The firearm believed to have been used in the attack remains under examination by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives as the investigation continues.
