Pharmaceutical Industry Supports Direct-to-Consumer Pricing

The TrumpRx announcement coincides with a similar initiative from PhRMA, the trade group representing U.S. pharmaceutical companies, which plans a direct-to-consumer website set to launch in January 2026.

Additionally, Chris Klomp, director of Medicare at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, confirmed that Pfizer has agreed not to charge the U.S. more than other countries for any drug through Medicare, Medicaid, or cash payments, with other manufacturers expected to follow suit.

Pharmaceutical companies have also pledged $500 billion in new domestic manufacturing investments, according to PhRMA.

Trump was joined at the announcement by Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz, and FDA Commissioner Martin Makary. The combined efforts highlight the administration’s push to make prescription medications more affordable and accessible, particularly for Americans who face high out-of-pocket costs.
