Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has raised concerns that the rhetoric and actions of Democrats could lead to serious consequences for President Donald Trump. Speaking on Fox News, Gingrich dismissed House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ claim that Republicans are “on the run,” warning that Democrats are increasingly enraged and lacking viable solutions.
Gingrich argued that some on the left are turning to extreme tactics in opposition to Trump and in resistance to efforts by Elon Musk to cut government spending. He described a hard-line faction that believes it has the right to break laws and deny the American people their choice of leadership.
“Well, I think that everything you showed earlier reflects what Lincoln said at Gettysburg when he said, this is a test of whether this system or any system so conceived in liberty can survive,” Gingrich said. “You have a hard-line group who believe they have the right to be violent, that they have the right to deny the American people the choice of their leadership, that they have the right to break the law. The answer to all of that is, frankly, you have to lock them up. You have to enforce the law.”
He further criticized Democrats for targeting figures like Elon Musk, as well as harassing Supreme Court justices and the vice president. Gingrich also commented on the behavior of House Democrats at a recent event, noting that they appeared disengaged and unresponsive to inspirational stories, including a 13-year-old cancer survivor and a young man seeking admission to West Point.
