Reiner: Trump Bringing U.S. to a Point Where We Might Lose Democracy

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Briefing” on Tuesday, actor and director Rob Reiner warned that President Donald Trump’s actions could push the United States to the brink of losing its democratic foundation.

Reiner emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that the country is now facing serious questions about the survival of its Constitution and the core protections guaranteed by the First Amendment. “We’re at a point where we are wrestling with whether or not we’re going to have the American form of democracy,” he said.

He explained that the threat extends far beyond attacks on individual comedians or media figures. According to Reiner, the tactics mirror those used by authoritarian leaders worldwide: controlling the media to ensure only one perspective dominates. “If you can take over platforms like Nexstar, Sinclair, or Fox News, and consolidate them, you have total control of the narrative. The presidency as a bully pulpit becomes absolute when you own everything,” he said.
