After Five Days Apart, Man Reunites With Dog Following California Wildfire

On January 7, 2025, the Palisades Fire swept through parts of California, leaving homes in ruins and streets filled with thick smoke. For Casey Colvin, the destruction of property was secondary to a far more urgent concern: the safety of his two beloved dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika.

When the fire began spreading, Casey was stuck at work, unable to reach his neighborhood. Roads were closed, traffic was gridlocked, and the uncertainty gnawed at him. Determined to find his pets, he rented a bicycle and pedaled through ash-laden air, driven by urgency rather than certainty. Upon arriving at his neighborhood, emergency crews barred entry. His dogs were somewhere beyond the line, and no one could confirm whether they had survived.
