A federal law enforcement operation in Southern California intensified Wednesday morning when a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent discharged a firearm during an attempted arrest in Compton, officials reported. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between federal immigration authorities and local jurisdictions, while also drawing attention to related federal investigations elsewhere in the country.
DHS identified the individual targeted in the operation as William Eduardo Moran Carballo, a Salvadoran national with a final order of removal issued in 2019. Carballo was reportedly under investigation for alleged involvement in a human smuggling network and had prior arrests tied to domestic violence.
