Parents of teen tossed to ground, detained by apparent federal agent demand answers

An 18-year-old woman from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, is recovering from a traumatic encounter with law enforcement after she was violently thrown to the ground and detained during what appeared to be a federal operation. The teenager, identified only as Evelyn, was taken into custody along with two friends and held for several hours before being released — an incident that has prompted public outcry, political intervention, and questions about which agency was responsible.

The confrontation occurred Friday in a residential neighborhood after Evelyn and her boyfriend went to warn residents that immigration officers were reportedly nearby. Cellphone footage from the scene shows undercover vehicles, flashing lights, and armed officers surrounding the area. In the video, Evelyn can be seen being pulled from a car, thrown to the ground, and handcuffed as she repeatedly tells officers she is not resisting.

Her parents, Gerardo and Jazmin, said the incident left their daughter physically and emotionally shaken. “They were telling them they were U.S. citizens, and they didn’t care,” Jazmin said. “It was terrifying to see that video.” The family said Evelyn and her two friends were detained in police vehicles and later brought to the Hoffman Estates Police Department parking lot, where they waited for hours without explanation or charges.

As confusion grew, federal officials appeared to distance themselves from the incident. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a statement saying it had no involvement in the arrest. However, Hoffman Estates police later confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were in the area that day but provided few details about their role.
