Trump Says Tom Homan Should Arrest Gov. Gavin Newsom Amid ICE Riots

President Donald Trump suggested that White House Border Czar Tom Homan should consider arresting California Governor Gavin Newsom amid ongoing tensions over immigration enforcement. Speaking briefly to reporters outside the White House on Monday, Trump addressed the growing unrest in Los Angeles, where demonstrators have targeted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel with harassment and insults.

When asked if Homan should arrest Newsom, Trump responded, “I would do it if I were Tom. I think it’s great. Gavin likes the publicity. I like Gavin Newsom. He is a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent. Everybody knows that. All you have to do is look at the little railroad he is building. It’s about 100 times over budget.”

Trump also criticized the protesters themselves, labeling them “professional agitators” and “insurrectionists” and stating, “They’re bad people. They should be in jail.” His remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the clashes between ICE officers and demonstrators in the city.

Over the weekend, anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles escalated, prompting President Trump to deploy at least 2,000 National Guard troops to help restore order. The demonstrations, sparked by ICE raids targeting employers, included incidents of officers being assaulted and vehicles damaged. The president indicated that he is considering invoking the Insurrection Act if the unrest continues, signaling a potential federal response to maintain law and order in the region.

With tensions mounting, and protest activity expected to continue throughout the week, the standoff between federal authorities, local officials, and demonstrators has drawn national attention, highlighting the ongoing debate over immigration enforcement and state-level responses.
