By his early teens, Ike Jr. was already immersed in the music business. “My father took me out of school at 13,” he once said. “I ended up running his recording studio and going on the road with them.” He became an integral part of Ike Sr.’s Bolic Sound studio and eventually earned industry acclaim for his technical skill and dedication to his craft.
In 2007, he won a Grammy for his work on Risin’ With The Blues, his father’s final studio album, which received the award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
Despite his lineage, Ike Jr. avoided the celebrity spotlight that surrounded his parents. He preferred to work behind the scenes, building a life defined more by creativity than fame. “He was quiet, disciplined, and deeply reflective,” said a family friend.
Tragedy has long shadowed the Turner family. Tina’s eldest son, Craig Turner, died by suicide in 2018; her son with Ike Sr., Ronnie Turner, passed away in 2022 from colon cancer. With Ike Jr.’s passing, all of Tina’s sons are now gone—an emotional blow for fans who saw her as a symbol of endurance.
Online tributes poured in following the news. “The Turners are together again,” one fan wrote. Another shared, “Rest easy, Ike Turner Jr. Your family’s music shaped generations.”
A private memorial will be held in Los Angeles, with plans to inter his ashes beside his brother Ronnie’s.
Though his life was marked by pain and loss, Ike Turner Jr. leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship and quiet artistry. His work lives on in countless recordings and in the echoes of the blues, soul, and rock music that his parents helped define.
He may not have sought fame, but he carried the Turner spirit until the very end — a life built on rhythm, resilience, and love for the sound of creation.
Rest in peace, Ike Turner Jr. — your music lives forever.
