Bondi Issues New Statement After James Comey Indictment

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that what she described as the “weaponization” of the U.S. legal system has come to an end following the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. The Department of Justice revealed Thursday that Comey faces two federal charges — one for making false statements within the jurisdiction of Congress and another for obstructing a congressional investigation.

During an interview, Bondi said the new administration intends to ensure accountability at every level, signaling a sweeping review of officials past and present. “Whether you’re a former FBI director, a member of the intelligence community, or an elected official, everything is on the table,” she said.

Bondi emphasized that the Justice Department and intelligence agencies are now working in coordination to prevent any further political misuse of law enforcement powers. “We will investigate and end the weaponization,” she said. “There will no longer be a two-tiered system of justice.”

The indictment of Comey stems from his 2020 testimony before Congress, in which he denied authorizing FBI personnel to act as anonymous sources. Prosecutors allege that statement was false and that he obstructed a congressional probe related to the Russia investigation, known as Crossfire Hurricane.
