Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, is not cooperating with authorities. During interviews with multiple media outlets, Cox also revealed that Robinson’s live-in partner is a transgender individual transitioning from male to female. Both Robinson’s family and his partner are reportedly assisting the FBI in their investigation.
“He has not confessed to authorities. He is not cooperating, but the people around him are cooperating, and that is very important,” Cox said. The governor also described Robinson as “deeply indoctrinated in leftist ideology,” contrasting with his conservative family background.
Robinson, 22, was arrested Thursday evening after his father recognized him in FBI-released photos. Cox said more details regarding Robinson’s motives would be disclosed when formal charges are filed. He also highlighted social media’s role in the radicalization of individuals, calling its influence worse than “cancer” and noting Utah’s efforts to reform algorithm-driven content.
