Young Dad Passed Away Unexpectedly, Doctors Discover 72 Lung Holes

Dylan Jay Watts, a 28-year-old father from the coastal town of Broulee in New South Wales, was celebrated for his deep devotion to his young son. Friends and family admired his love and dedication, often noting how fatherhood gave him renewed purpose. Upon his child’s birth, Dylan shared, “Words cannot describe how much more purpose I feel with you in my life!” Tragically, his life was cut short on March 22, leaving a grieving family and community behind.

Although Dylan had been battling serious health issues for some time, his passing still shocked those who knew him. Family friend Cheyenne O’Brien said the loss came unexpectedly, despite his prolonged illness. Dylan’s condition first intensified in 2021 when scans revealed two holes in his lungs. Over the next few years, his health deteriorated drastically. By mid-2024, doctors discovered 72 holes in his lungs due to a severe and persistent bacterial infection, leaving his family and medical team bewildered.

His sister, Caitlyn Watts, described the severity of Dylan’s illness, recounting a hospital stay in July 2023 after he coughed up blood. Doctors warned that his condition could have been fatal if not treated promptly. Despite intensive care, medications, and multiple hospitalizations, Dylan’s symptoms—including chronic coughing, extreme fatigue, severe acid reflux, and mental health struggles—persisted. By early 2024, following a lung hemorrhage, he spent three weeks in hospital, with Caitlyn noting the sheer volume of medication he required.

Despite the grim prognosis, which suggested he might not live past 30, Dylan remained hopeful, determined to fight for his health and cherish time with his family.
