A Medical Emergency Changed Everything

Reflecting on that visit, Robert explained, “They did MRI, blood tests. I was having trouble breathing, that’s why I went there.”

What began as an emergency evaluation soon developed into a life-threatening medical situation that would leave him unconscious for days.

Three Days in a Coma

During the medical emergency, Robert entered a coma that lasted for three days. While many people describe similar events as near-death experiences, he insists his case was different.

He has repeatedly stated that he believes he was not simply close to death but had actually died during that period.

He later learned more about the seriousness of his condition and included those details in his book, 44 Hours in Heaven.

The book states that he had been “drowning on his blood in his lungs, acute hypoxic respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.”

The combination of these medical emergencies placed him in an extremely critical condition while healthcare professionals worked to revive him.

An Experience He Believes Took Place in Heaven

While unconscious, Robert says he experienced what he believes was heaven. He recalls finding himself in surroundings unlike anything he had ever seen before.

He described the landscape as peaceful and beautiful, filled with giant oak trees and flowers. The colors, he said, appeared more vivid than anything he had witnessed during his life.

Beyond the scenery itself, Robert remembers experiencing emotions that left a lasting impression on him.

He recalled feeling an overwhelming sense of peace and love throughout the experience, describing those feelings as unlike anything he had previously known.

Meeting Jesus

Robert says that during this experience he met Jesus. Rather than focusing on fear or uncertainty, he described feeling complete awe during the encounter.

Even while experiencing what he believed was heaven, Robert said his thoughts turned toward his family, especially his wife.

He explained that he wanted to return because he believed she was suffering.

Robert recalled asking to be sent back so he could comfort her, saying he “felt every bit of her pain.”

He believes that request became the beginning of a conversation that ultimately led to his return.

Robert shared that Jesus reminded him of the request he had made shortly after arriving.

He recalled hearing the words, “When you first came before me, you asked if you could go back.”

Looking back on the moment during the podcast interview, Robert added humor to the story by saying, “I went ‘oh he did hear!’,” prompting podcast host Alex Ferrari to respond, “I don’t think Jesus is hard of hearing.”

He recalled Jesus telling him, “He said ‘your brain has been destroyed’, obviously.”

He remembered hearing, “I could and would send you back with some caveats. I’ll send you back with a miracle that nobody could ever deny, not the doctors, not the nurses, not scientists, nobody could ever deny that I am God and I did this, and there’s no question that I’m alive, I’m real, heaven is real.”

Robert also said that he was told additional healing would take place before he returned.

He recalled being told that he would receive a “new brain” and that his memory would also be fully restored.
